Is Sharing Beyond Caring?

“Sharing is caring”, a phrase overused when it favours us,

is exactly what it means, yet are we willing to care for others by sharing with them? Where do we take a break or draw the line at caring?

Picture this:

You and your friend are living on the streets because you can’t afford rent nor food. One day you both get an arrangement at a dingy diner where you can work but get paid with only food and shelter on-site.

A few days later, you go for a short walk during your break time to clear your head, and come across a flyer that claims the following:

“Fully furnished apartment with stocked food for free. Just take a picture of this flyer and send to the QR code displayed.”

In your curiosity you do so, immediately receive a call to go to an address nearby and there you are given the keys to an apartment with everything you ever dreamt of, even clothes, shoes and a butler.

Will you go back and tell your friend or decide that “at least” they have somewhere to eat and sleep, so they should be ok?

Certainly not!

But that’s how a lot of Christians today are treating family and friends who are still lost and trying to work out their own salvation.

“And as you go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out demons. Freely you have received, freely give.” Matthew 10:7-8 NKJV

For some of us, those around us who don’t know Christ may not have any other reference point apart from us. Let’s not relegate it to “others” since there may never be another.

And while life in Christ may have some ups and downs, these facts remain: we have freedom from sin, we have eternal life, and we have power over the evil one! Now, that's worth sharing with everyone we meet!

Let’s draw inspiration from Cornelius’ encounter, shall we?

“Then he invited them in and lodged them. On the next day Peter went away with them, and some brethren from Joppa accompanied him. And the following day they entered Caesarea. Now Cornelius was waiting for them, and had called together his relatives and close friends.”

Acts 10:23-24 NKJV

So yes, sharing is caring, but it’s way more than that. It’s also daring to save the soul of that one we claim to love.
